Urgent notice to Filipinos who are seeking to travel to the United Kingdom seeking employment.

It has been brought to my attention today that there is a very worrying development in recruitment of Filipinos to the United Kingdom with possible offers of employment from potentially unscrupulous agencies/individuals. Details of which must remain confidential.

Please be aware of job offers posted online through social media. The vast majority of employers in the UK have dedicated websites and indeed email addresses. If any email address contains one of the email providers like Hotmail, Google for example: human.resources@hotmail.com, this is most likely to be bogus.

Please also be aware that it is very easy to create fake social media accounts by setting up a bogus email address and then making up a name and indeed grabbing a photo online and pretending to be that person. It is important therefore to always do your own background research. Please Google all details of any job advert, details of person etc and read what others have said online. If there is a scam, usually if you copy and paste the details and search on Google, the scam will be detailed.

Please ensure before travelling to the UK you check the website of the British Embassy, Manila for the most up to date advice on Visa and entry requirements. They can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/world/organisations/british-embassy-manila

Finally, I do understand that life in the Philippines can be difficult for some who maybe are not able to find a job back home, thus the temptation to seek employment abroad is tempting. The message is clear, always do research yourself and also do not believe everything you read. Please share this post, maraming salamat po,

Malcolm Conlan, London
